D&D Painting Cabinet Finishes

Exposed wood surfaces require a painted or clear coat finish to preserve color, texture and prolong the life of your cabinetry. D&D Painting opts to use a Conversion Varnish finish on all of our new cabinet finishes. While both lacquer and Conversion Varnish serve to protect a wood product from water, heat, and other spills for years to come, conversion varnish will provide the longest lasting and more durable finish.

Why D&D uses Conversion Varnish

Conversion Varnish has a dried coverage density of twice that of lacquer, because of this Conversion Varnish takes fewer coats, is more durable and is less likely to scratch compared to lacquer.
The Conversion Varnish thickness also offers greater resistance to heat, solvents, acid and alkali when compared to lacquer finishes.
Conversion Varnish is somewhat more elastic than lacquer. This elasticity reduces the chance of expansion cracks at wood joints.

Conversion Varnish and lacquers have their advantages and disadvantages in application. Where Conversion Varnish is really an advantage, however, is in the overall durability of the finished product. Kitchen and bath cabinets see a lot of use over the years and it’s not always gentle use. D&D Painting wants your cabinetry looking as good as new for years to come. For this reason, we decided all of our new cabinet finishes will be Conversion Varnish.
